Retrieve a USB memory inaccessible


a guide here are going to retrieve a USB stick that is "inaccessible" since Windows does not use either option the "Safely Remove Hardware" or for some other reason, this guide is not mine because it appears in many places, all the steps mentioned here were tested by a server and work, if it does not work, you have other problems.

various techniques were tested as Disk Manager on both Windows XP and Vista RC1, the technique of the tool "HP format tool" but did not work because the drive was blocked, so the above was used in the following steps in this guide.

  • This freeware Low Level Format utility will erase, Low-Level Format and re-certify a SATA, IDE or SCSI hard disk drive with any size of up to 281 474 976 710 655 bytes. Will work with USB and FIREWIRE external drive enclosures. Low-level formatting of Flash Cards is supported too. Low Level Format Tool will clear partitions, MBR, and every bit of user data. The data cannot be recovered after using this utility. The program utilizes Ultra-DMA transfers when possible.

Note
This guide is not to recover deleted data from your USB drive, but so you can reuse when Windows says it is unreadable and only gives you the option to format and not can be formatted.

Step 1.
Download and install "HDD Low Level Format Tool" after starting the program.
You will have a screen will show all drives detected by Windows, it will look like this:

Step 2.
Select your USB / flash and dale click a "Continue" * sure select the correct drive

now have more options in the next window with 3 flanges as: Device Details, LOW-Level format and SMART

Step 3.
Select
PESTAN ~ a "Low Level Format" and click to give "This Device Format"

Once formatting is complete, you will receive a message like the following:

The USB device may now be used but you should format it, as to any disk

Step 4.
Instructions High-level formatting: Open

double click the drive you want to open
Windows will tell you that the drive is not formatted ...
Already you can format.
* Do not use quick format ("Quick format") and be sure to select the correct file system. Click on Format


If all goes well, your USB memory will return to work again.
